Guidelines: Abusive and/or Rude Behaviour

The following guidelines have been adopted by the Board of Directors – September 26, 2018 for dealing with members who repeatedly exhibit abusive and/or rude behavior on or off the ice.

It should be noted that these are Guidelines only and do not limit how the Curling Club deals with future situations.

Background:

The following is one of the Rules of Curling:

“I will take no action that could be interpreted as an attempt to intimidate or demean my opponents, teammates or umpires.”

No one enjoys losing a game but, on the other hand, no player misses a shot on purpose.

Fundamentally the curling club is a social club. The vast majority of our members curl for the enjoyment of the game and the enjoyment of the social aspects of the club.

Interventions

If a member has caused concerns for multiple members then the following interventions are suggested.

First intervention – a discussion with the individual;

Second intervention– a written warning;

Third intervention– suspension of playing privileges for a specific time;

Fourth intervention– membership revoked.
