Last season was a challenging one for many and those challenges extended well beyond curling.   With the recent and current improvements in COVID-19 cases, mass vaccinations and continued adherence to Public Health guidelines, we are looking forward to a 2021/2022 season that is much more “typical” with respect to curling.  Back to regular draws, regular games, full-teams, 2 sweepers and back-to-normal curling rules!  Of course, we will continue to take guidance from regulatory bodies concerning return-to-play and COVID-19 protocols, however we are happy to announce that we are assuming a full reopening at this time.

Please note…If unvaccinated, you are welcome to register and play at the our Club, however you must comply with all Public Health and MCC guidelines, including but not limited to:  wearing a mask at all times, practicing physical distancing,  not entering the locker room areas, maintaining a 2 meter distance from others, adhering to recognized hygiene best practices, and otherwise limiting exposure to other members.   All vaccinated individuals will be required to follow all Public Health and Club Safety protocols that may be in place at that time.

So with that in mind…we welcome you to register your spot and your teams now.  We are anticipating a full schedule with near-capacity leagues so the sooner you sign-up the better.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you in October.  HURRY HARD!

Registration information – General

Registration for the 2021-2022 curling season will open on Monday July 19th.  The start date for league play this year is scheduled for Monday October 18th.  We will continue to take guidance from regulatory bodies concerning return to play and COVID-19, however we are assuming a full reopening at this time.  Please note if for any reason we do not open all funds will be returned.

Returning members have until August 15th to register to guarantee their spots in the leagues they played in the previous season.  ALL team members must be registered and have paid by September 15th.  See priorities for Adults in Fixed Leagues below.  Starting August 15th any remaining spots will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.

For returning members wishing to play in a league that they have not played in before, the registration date of the last team member registering and paying their deposit will be used to determine priority for any available spaces.  A deposit of $200 per adult member is required with your registration to hold your priority.  Full payment is due by September 15th.  Late fees ($25) for those who have not paid in full as of September 15th will be reinstated.  Registration has been reinstated for the Sunday Youth leagues this year.  Youth may register as of July 19’th.   All other policies governing refunds and late fees also apply.

Credit card payments will be accepted this year.  You may complete payment in full by credit card (Visa and Mastercard) at the time of registration.  We will also accept e-transfers and cheques.  E-transfers are automatically deposited from most institutions.  If your institution requires a password please use “curling”.  Payments by cheque or e-transfer will only be accepted for an individual and their immediate family (spouse, child).  Payments for team members will not be accepted.  Please indicate clearly on the cheque or e-transfer the names of the individuals whose fees are being paid.  This is especially important when making a payment for a child whose surname is different than your own.

Players looking for a team or teams looking for players

Due to Covid-19, we expect there will be individual players looking for teams to play on or teams looking for a player.  If you are looking for a spot or a player please email the convenor for that league and the membership director at This email address is being protected from spambots. Registration Priority for Adults in Fixed Leagues

Any openings will be filled by MCC members, followed by previous members and then other individuals. The definition of a returning fixed team is a team with all 4 or at least 2 original team members from that league in the previous season. Returning teams are guaranteed their spot if each member of the team registers and pays by the applicable dates. The team’s entry is not considered complete until the last member of that team registers. We encourage fixed teams and curlers to build their own teams. Where teams are incomplete, the registration committee and conveners will do its best to fill any openings with returning league members.  Members who did not curl in the 2020/21 season but donated their membership fees to the club are guaranteed a spot in their prior leagues.

The allocation of any open spots in a league will go to new teams ranked by the following criteria in descending order:

  1. Four members from that league, from any team.
  2. Three members from that league, from any team, plus a MCC member from the previous season.
  3. Three members from that league, from any team, plus one person.
  4. Two members from that league, from any team, plus two people that were MCC members the previous season.
  5. Two members from that league, from any team, plus two people.
  6. A team of 4 that were MCC members the previous season.
  7. A team of 4 new members into the MCC.

Registration for Competitive Youth

Registration is open. Practice times will be made available once the leagues schedules are finalized.

Lockers, WYR (Win your registration) and 50/50

Members may still select WYR, 50/50 and locker rental options are available as in previous years.

Registration Priority for Adult Learn to Curl

The Adult Learn to Curl program will be scheduled once we have the required number or students registered.

Return of the Grand Spiel

We are happy to announce that the Grand Spiel will return this season.  This exciting event is being planned for the year-end, to begin after league play is concluded and the League Champions are decided. This year, entry to the Grand Spiel will be free to all paid members of the club.  Entry will be on a first come, first served basis once the spiel registration opens.  The Grand Spiel is a 32-team, 128-player bonspiel that will be organized and run starting around the end of March through to mid-April after the regular league schedules are concluded. Teams will be picked by draft so players can look forward to playing with new faces and probably new positions to test their mettle.  It will be a bracket format and Spiel game/draw times and dates will be determined by your team’s wins and losses as you progress through the spiel.  The winners will be the Grand Spiel Champions!  It will be a great opportunity to meet and interact with more than the usual band of suspects in your curling circle and have some fun competition while doing it. We will finish the spiel, and the year, in mid-April, with an Extravaganza Night featuring curling competition, League Awards and a party atmosphere. It should be fun!  Stay tuned for more info as the season opening approaches.
